Embassy Stationery Box

Here I wanted to capture some of the amazing details of the design of the surface of this box, which, although made of cardboard and printed paper, had many design elements to be found on more what we would more traditionally consider to be 'textiles'. This chinzty design, seems to be influenced by Indian designs, which leads me to think it may be Victorian, reflecting the interest of the age in designs from the Indian subcontinent:

Here I explore the detail of some of the different fonts and messages visible on the top surface of the box, which seem to be selling luxury, reliability, pedigree and a combination of English and exotic origin:

Here I try to isolate some of the elements of the design, which combines parallel lines, dots, curves, floral motifs and text:

Here I try to capture the way the text is seen in perspective:

Here I am interested in the individual letters and styles of font in use on the top surface of the box, captured here on A3 cartridge paper using a 5B graphite stick:

Here is it the details of the company name and the way that this is written and how it seems to anchor the stationery box, and the company that made it, into a particular time in the past:

Here I use continuous line drawing to record my impression of the floral design found on the box:

Here, in extreme close-up I study one aspect of the design found at the end of the box:
