Introductory project: Stage 2: Observing qualities: The hat, continued

Decided to turn over the hat and look at the inside, and am particularly drawn to the petersham band around the inside of the brim, as well as the rough edge of the straw hat near the edge of the underside of the brim.

I liked the way the vertical lines of the petersham ribbon rippled and moved and used the striped brown wrapping paper to echo this:

This then led me to think of a pattern that I had previously created with the sponge tool, almost like a path leading around a garden, this one using diluted black in on brown paper bag:

Here, I experimented with making circles of different circumferences with the same sponge tool, again with diluted black ink and on brown paper bag:

Here, I used a similar mark-making technique to before but on cream cartridge paper:
