Here I did some experiments with wetting the paper before using the black Inktense colour stick, to capture the texture and weave of the linen used as a base for the whitework embroidery:

Here I used the plastic netting to create marks with ink directly onto the page:

Here I used the vegetable netting under the paper, and made a series of different marks, with the intention of suggesting different areas of the white work embroidery:
